How to use this workbook
- Start with the letter. Say the letter together and let your child look at its uppercase and lowercase forms.
- Learn the words. Say each isiXhosa word out loud, then read its English meaning. Repeat the word together a few times.
- Look at the pictures. Talk about what each picture shows and connect it to the isiXhosa word.
- Trace with a finger first. Before using a pencil, let your child follow the shape of the letter with their finger.
- Trace with a pencil. Follow the arrows and dotted lines slowly. There is no need to rush.
- Colour it in. Let your child colour the letters and pictures. This gives little hands a break from writing while keeping them engaged with the letter.
- Use the words at home. When you come across something from the workbook, use its isiXhosa name. The more children hear a word, the easier it becomes to remember.
- Do a little at a time. A few pages in one sitting is enough. Come back to the workbook often and repeat letters or words your child is still learning.
Most importantly, let your little Penglin learn at their own pace. The goal is to become familiar with the letters, practise writing them and build their isiXhosa vocabulary through repetition and play.
